Weblab: Hitech Summer benefits 600 children and adolescents

Under the scope of the WebLab project, the "Hitech Summer" took place between last August and September and lasted 4 weeks.

"Hitech Summer" is a vacation program that provides leisure options for children, youth and teenagers. It is held annually and it is currently on its 4th edition.

Nearly 600 children, young people and teenagers participated in this initiative. Of which 56% male and 44% female, had the opportunity to learn, in a playful way, through the HTML and CSS, Multimedia, Blender, Instrumentation, Scratch and Robotics modules offered during the training period.

They were able to develop several projects, and also had the opportunity to participate in the Recycle Bot competition.  The aim of the competition was to build a robot with functionalities closest to any of the robots used in the webLabs, by recycling and using elements from second-hand and/or damaged toys and household utensils.

Thirteen teams applied, all mixed, presenting creative and innovative projects. With CVMóvel's sponsorship, the competition is now in the results phase.

It was organized by NOSi, in partnership with the Ministry of Education. All webLab laboratories in the country were present.

WebLab is a digital literacy project that seeks to reduce digital exclusion, and is on all the islands, in 22 municipalities, in high schools.
