As part of the celebrations for World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, which is observed this Saturday, May 17, NOSi, a Public Business Entity, in partnership with the University of Cape Verde (Uni-CV), organized a thematic workshop: "Gender Equality in Digital Transformation."
The event took place on the morning of Friday, May 16, at the Uni-CV Campus in Praia. The opening session featured speeches from the Vice-Rector of Uni-CV, Dr. Jorge Tavares, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of NOSi, Eng. Carlos Tavares Pina, and the President of the Cape Verdean Institute for Gender Equality and Equity (ICIEG), Dr. Marisa Carvalho.
The workshop included two thematic panels: "Women and Men in Technology: Paths and Challenges," with contributions from Eng. Elcelina Silva (Uni-CV) and Eng. Péricles Pinto (Skytech), moderated by Dr. Luísa Chantre, coordinator of NosiAkademia. The second panel, "Artificial Intelligence with a Gender Perspective: Inclusion, Risks, and Opportunities," featured speakers Eng. Cleonice Moreira (Uni-CV), Eng. Brocy Centeio (NOSi), and Dr. Leonilde Santos (Chair of ARME), moderated by Prof. Dr. Arlindo Veiga (Uni-CV).
The session fostered a critical and constructive analysis of how the gender perspective can and should be integrated into the development and use of artificial intelligence.
