NOSi, Air Centre, and Copernicus Host Workshop on "Promoting Green and Blue Growth in West Africa through Earth Observation"

In partnership with the European Commission under the FPCUP project, NOSi, the Air Centre, and the Copernicus program collaborated to host a two-day workshop on July 18th and 19th, 2023, in the City of Praia. The workshop, titled "Promoting Green and Blue Growth in West Africa through Earth Observation".

The workshop witnessed the participation of numerous national and international experts and centered around two primary objectives: in the short term, enhancing the utilization of Copernicus Earth Observation services by involving individuals and economic agents; and in the long term, exploring the establishment of an African Earth Observation Center to bolster local capacities in advanced observation methods.

The opening ceremony took place on Tuesday, July 18th. Presided over by the Secretary of State for Digital Economy, Pedro Lopes, the event featured notable addresses by key dignitaries, including the Ambassador of the European Union to Cabo Verde, Carla Grijó, the Ambassador of Portugal to Cabo Verde, Paulo Lourenço, the Chief Technology Officer of the AIR Centre, Pedro Silva, the Chairman of NOSi, Carlos Tavares Pina, and the distinguished presence of Prof. Dr. Manuel Heitor, former Minister of Science, Technology, and Higher Education of Portugal, currently serving as the Director and Researcher at IN+/IST and K4P Alliances.
