35 children and young people from the neighborhood of Safende, in Praia, are benefiting from training in robotics and multimedia, within the scope of the “Smart Safende” project of the Associação Amigos de Safende. The training courses that started on September 19th and will continue until October 1st, are being taught by the WebLab monitors in the laboratories installed at the Regina Silva Secondary School, at the Domingos Ramos High School, at the Pedro Gomes High School, and at the Constantino Semedo Secondary School. .

The objective of this project, in addition to providing young people with technological skills, is the spread of digital culture among children and adolescents with problems of access to ICTs.

Ivan Moreira, responsible for the “Smart Safende” project, reports that the idea came up with the objective of transforming Safende into a smart neighborhood, with concrete actions, stimulating the use of ICTs. He expressed the desire that, in the near future, the community will be provided with a laboratory to reinforce the cognitive capacity of children, adolescents and young people, fill free time in a way rich in concepts and techniques, facilitating the process of digital inclusion and creation of self-employment.

According to the coordinator of WebLab, Luisa Chantre, these training actions are in line with the activity plan of the project that aims to bring technologies to communities as well.

Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, all guidelines from health authorities are being strictly followed, whether in the hygiene of space and equipment, as well as in the distance and mandatory use of masks by trainees and trainers. Each laboratory is receiving only 6 students, that is, its occupation is reduced by 50%.
